About

The next game at the Avangard hockey centre confirmed that not one team in the tournament is hanging up their numbers. If even teams which are losing badly fight until the final minutes and have all the chances to get out of their group, then what can you say about teams which have pretty even chances?! That was the game between Metallurg (Novokuznetsk) and Rubin. You couldn’t tell right away that the teams were already not fighting for the cup — they were playing so fiercely, and created such beautiful moments!

Rubin quite quickly was able to pull ahead and start to control the game. Metallurg could only bring a response in the second period, but right at the beginning. Further on, Rubin played efficiently, but the next chance smiled on their opponents — a clear violation in the seventh minute of the second period gave the majority to Metallurg. Although the Tyumen team unexpectedly profited from the moment, excelling in the minority. The ‘blacksmiths’ coach took a time-out and explained to his charges that they were still playing in the majority and they had to change the situation.

In the same majority the Kuzbass team should have been able to close the gap, but twice in a row the Rubin goalie Sergei Ivanov played brilliantly. In the first episode he stopped the puck right on the line. A few minutes later Rubin, as if they were playing cat and mouse, again broke the rules. The Novokuznetsk club started to besiege the goal, but there were no accurate shots.

In the third period Metallurg again came out ready for a fight. There were so many opportunities for Alexander Vedernikov’s boys! These chances came up in equal play, and in the majority. But they managed to realize one of these numerous advantages only at the very end of the game — Alexander Karpov scored in the 43rd minute. At the end of the period, Metallurg took out their goalie. And Rubin scored into an empty net — 4:2.
