The XIII Gazprom Neft Cup draw has taken place!
The draw for the XIII Gazprom Neft Cup International KHL Kids Hockey Tournament took place on 13 February 2019. Thirty one teams, from 10 countries, will be competing in 2019 — a record in terms of both the number and geographic range of participating teams, with players from Austria, Belarus, China, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Slovakia and Russia battling it out for victory in the Gazprom Neft Cup. Hockey’s most important under-11s competition will take in Sochi at the “Bolshoy” and the “Iceberg” Olympic arenas, with the group round starting on 22 April and the Super Final taking place at the Bolshoy ice rink on 26 April 2019.
All teams were drawn against each other, in order, grouped on the basis of their performance in previous years. Those teams taking first and second place in their groups will then compete in group playoffs, with the strongest teams from the East and West groups competing in the Super Final.
Alexander Dybal, Chairman of the Tournament Committee and a Member of the Gazprom Neft Management Board, stressed: “Its breakneck geographic expansion has conclusively confirmed the Gazprom Neft Cup’s status as the most important non-commercial youth tournament in Europe. We are delighted to see clubs from Austria, China, Slovakia and the Czech Republic joining us. All teams will, this year, play at Sochi’s Olympic arenas and we will, for the first time, be opening the tournament with a match between capped East and West Group players, in which the best youth players representing all 10 countries will be taking part. As always, we want to open with a grandiose multimedia show for our guests.”
