Oleg Mosalyov: “I’m waiting for the bright little stars, who can get the whole country talking about them!”
Tomorrow KHL TV will be broadcasting live from the 10th Gazprom Neft Cup KHL International Kids Hockey Tournament. The opening game in the East Group, between Avangard and Ak Bars, is at 16:00 Moscow time. KHL TV commentator Oleg Mosalyov shared his expectations for the upcoming games.
What’s special about covering games between children’s teams? Have you worked at children’s competitions before?
O.M.: “I think that commenting on children’s games is just as important as for masters of the sport. Yes, of course, the speed and the mastery are not quite at the same level, but the desire to win that you see coming from the players makes up for that. This isn’t the first time that I’m working at this tournament and I always enjoy it.”
In your opinion, what will young players get from taking part in a tournament as big as the Gazprom Neft Cup?
O.M.: “When everything is organised at such a high level, every boy can feel like a pro and put on his very best hockey. Taking part in tournaments like this and winning gives them a good motivation to keep developing in the long term.”
You’ve gotten used to big battles in adult hockey, and what are you expecting from these 11-year-old athletes on the ice?
O.M.: “I’m looking forward to a fight from the first second to the last, and I’m waiting for the bright little stars, who can get the whole country talking about them!”
