The East Group’s best four teams are fighting for a place in the preliminary final

26 April 2015 | Tournament

In Omsk they have determined the participants of the semi-finals, which will be held on April 27. Just one team was able to take a confident win in their game, and the others needed a little bit more effort and nerves.

First on the Omsk Arena ice were the hockey players of Neftekhimik (Nizhnekamsk) and Avtomobilist (Yekaterinburg). Avtomobilist, with solid support from the players’ parents chanting on the stands, arranged a good debut of the game and moved forward twice, but then completely lost their advantage. As a result by the third period the Urals team had slipped into the role of chasers — 3:4 — and it all ended with two more goals by the dogged Neftekhimik team — 6:3!

This time in the Urals derby the winner was ‘magnetic’ Metallurg.

In a parallel battle in the Avangard hockey centre two neighbours — Traktor from Chelyabinsk and Metallurg from Magnitogorsk — were thrashing it out The ‘magnets’ have looked a little unstable in this tournament, but in the game against their historical rival they were able to show their best side. The team didn’t suffer from the move to a different arena — they won the game 6:3.

Avangard again scored a lot and allowed little. This time the ‘hawks’ victims were the team from Ufa, who it seems had not gotten over their heavy battle against Yugra. The rink hosts quickly scored three goals and further handled things calmly, running counter attacks. The team leader, forward Gleb Trikozov, got a whole five points, and the ‘hawks’ celebrated success with a score of 6:1.

Ak Bars — Yugra: the game was the toughest quarter final in the East Group

Yugra and Ak Bars put on a real hockey thriller. The scoreboard figures speak for themselves — 3:2 to Kazan. It seems the “leopards” should thank Lady Luck for their squeaking through to the semi-final of the East Group.

On April 27 the East Group teams will play according to the following schedule:

Omsk Arena (Omsk time)
10:40 Avangard — Neftekhimik

Avangard hockey centre
10:40 — Metallurg (Magnitogorsk) — Ak Bars

The East Group final will be held on April 27 at the Omsk Arena at 18:30 Omsk time (15:30 Moscow time). The winner will get the chance to go up against the best team from the West Group in the Super Final of the Gazprom Neft Cup for the main tournament trophy.
