21 April 2014

A record number of media representatives have been accredited for the 8th International Gazprom Neft Cup Youth Ice Hockey Tournament. In Minsk, 150 journalists are covering the West Group matches, and another 50 colleagues are working in Omsk covering the East Group games.

The organizers have put together an expanded programme for ’wordsmiths and microphonesmiths’ — an air hockey tournament, tours around the capital of Belarus, and the Chizhovka Arena , a brand-new sports complex that opened in January 2014 and where in a few days games will begin for the adult world championship.

In Minsk before the beginning of the grand opening ceremony, there was a press briefing in the Chizhovka Arena Press Centre, including the chairman of Gazprom Neft Alexander Dyukov , and KHL president Alexander Medvedev. Alexander Dyukov said that the hockey tournament was one of the company’s most important social projects, and Alexander Medvedev emphasized significance of the Gazprom Neft Cup for development of Russian and European ice hockey.
