East Group opening ceremony ends in Omsk
The East Group opening game ended in the Omsk Arena with a 3:1 win for Traktor against Avangard. The game preceded a lavish opening ceremony, with a record number of fans lining the stands. More than 8,000 spectators witnessed a unique multimedia show carried out on a par with the world’s most prestigious sporting tournaments.
In his welcoming speech Omsk Region Governor Viktor Nazarov wished the players “an excellent game and a wonderful mood.” He also noted the following “The Gazprom Neft Cup Tournament has taken place here in Omsk for the past six years. Throughout these years we and Gazprom Neft have worked to create maximally comfortable conditions for this highly prestigious children’s tournament. And the best measure of our accomplishments is the high appraisal we received from the event’s young participants and their coaches.”
At 20:50 Moscow time the grand opening ceremony for the West Group will start in Minsk. Participating will be the Chairman of Gazprom Neft Management Board Alexander Dyukov and the President of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) Alexander Medvedev. The ceremony and opening game between Dinamo Minsk and SKA St. Petersburg will be broadcast live on KHL TV.
