19 April 2014

Russian sports stars send their best wishes to young players in the 8th Gazprom Neft Cup Youth Ice Hockey Tournament. Watch their video message!

Vyacheslav Fetisov, twice Olympic champion and many times world champion, Distinguished Master of Sport of the USSR

Dear boys, I am glad to have this opportunity to congratulate you on taking part in the Tournament and to wish you success. I know for sure that you can’t become an Olympic champion, world champion, or Stanley Cup winner without winning the Tournament you are taking part in now. I would like to thank the organizers and wish you every success in this Tournament and in setting your priorities for life. Listen to what your coaches tell you, and you will do well.

Maxim Sushinsky, World Champion (2008), Russian Champion (2004)

Welcome to everyone taking part in the Gazprom Neft Cup. I am very pleased that the Tournament is growing with more teams involved every year. I believe that a lot of good players will come out of this Tournament – players we will see again at the World Championships and the Olympics. Good luck to you, lads.

Georgy Cherdantsev, commentator for NTV Plus, winner of many professional prizes.

Boys, I'll be honest, I envy you being able to play in such a Tournament at your age – it’s an opportunity I didn’t get. Such a major tournament, in another city. Ice hockey wasn’t really my thing – I didn’t skate well enough. I played football instead. But it doesn’t matter what you play – ice hockey, soccer, basketball or volleyball. The main thing is to do some sport and do it from the heart. We have just enjoyed the Olympics, which were the best and most successful in the history of our country. Part of the Olympic creed is: "What’s important isn’t winning but taking part." But you have chosen a path in life, where winning is important. So I'll wish you health– of course – in the first place. Don‘t forget about school because a bad student finds it harder to do well in professional sport. But also I wish you all victory, because that is what you came here for. Good luck, good health, give your opponents a good game and do well!
