In Yekaterinburg the senior fellows show the young players where to direct the puck to shoot a match-winning goal, and the younger in turn promise to be ever more success than their predecessors. Watch our Avtomobilist training reportage.

A friendly game between two child teams at Avtomobilist Ice Hockey Club. The coaches have organised the match specially as part of preparations for the Gazprom Neft Cup. Time is running out: in just a few days the boys will be off to Omsk, where their teammates just one year older showed a very good result last year.

I was driving along the blue line and the puck started flying to the left. I scooped it up and sent it over to the corner, and that‘s how we won! The whole team was over the moon. Fifth place was the best we had ever done.

Avtomobilist has played in the Tournament three times. This year the coaches believe that the Ekaterinburg boys can aim for a place among the prize winners. The players themselves are aiming even higher than that .

I’m going to the Gazprom Neft Cup Tournament and I am really pleased to be taking part. I think we have a chance to do well against the other teams. Yes, they are strong. But are we afraid of them? No! I am out to win!

There will be 24 teams at this year ’s Gazprom Neft Cup. For the first time in the Tournament’s history, the organizers have divided the teams into two groups, West and East. Avtomobilist will be up against Salavat Yulaev and Neftekhimik .

The first thing we have to do is to qualify from our sub-group. Every player gets the jitters before every tournament. Everyone wants to prove himself, to show off his skill. And every coach wants to prove that his team is the best.

The team is training hard to be ready for Omsk. The emphasis on attacking play. The coaches at Avtomobilist say that the Tournament will be the main event of the season.
