Events of the final tournament day: facts, figures, and statistics
A final ranking of all teams was determined on the fourth and final day of the Gazprom Neft Cup, the Seventh KHL International Youth Ice Hockey Tournament. In particular, the bronze, silver, and gold winners of the tournament were named, and the fifth to sixteenth places were also designated. The game between the two northernmost teams, Gazovik and Yugra, ended with a win for the Tyumen team 5-2. Neftekhimik managed to defeat the modest Yamal, and that defeat turned out to be a devastating one. Ratmir Safiullov distinguished himself with a hat trick, while the Nizhnekamsk team ultimately scored eight goals. Ivan Zinchenko of the team SKA also scored three goals in one game, but that did not help him in the game against Metallurg. The latter team responded to the individual feats of the young player from Saint Petersburg with seven goals.
The game for the bronze was truly spectacular. Lokomotiv, one of the best defensive teams, faced the Omsk Avangard, which had become renowned in this tournament for its offensive power. After an evenly-matched and captivating game, Avangard emerged victorious with a final score of 3-2. The bronze medals will remain in Omsk, while the title of best offensive player in the tournament went to Omsk player Nikita Savchenko.
The prize for the best goalie of the Gazprom Neft Cup went to the Lokomotiv goalkeeper Yegor Gorshkov, who accepted his award as presented by the guests of honor. Lokomotiv had one achievement that deserves special mention: not a single goal was scored against them during a period of 173 minutes and 5 seconds. Unfortunately, this tournament record did not allow the Yaroslavl team to climb the winner's podium and earn medals.
Atlant player Alexander Barakhtin did not win any prize, but he did certainly earn the statistical accomplishment of the fastest goal in the tournament by scoring during the ninth second of a game. Nevertheless, this forward's achievement did not allow Atlant to win. The Riga Dinamo team proved itself to be stronger, and responded to the quick Atlant goal with five of its own.
It is worth mentioning the Sibir-Ak Bars game and the Avtomobilist-Salavat Yulayev game. Both games ended with a score of 3-2, and only in overtime shootouts. The Siberian and Ural teams were more successful in the shootouts, which made it possible in the final ranking for them to overtake the representatives of the republics of Tatarstan and Bashkortostan.
The main event was the final match of the tournament at the Omsk Arena. The Moscow CSKA and the Chelyabinsk Traktor made it a real thriller. It was only in the third period that the CSKA boys managed to tip the scales in their balance and win 4-2. The Chelyabinsk boys were upset, and the Moscow players are glad and cannot hide their happiness. CSKA is the champion!
